Early Catholic Foundation and Chiro Movement
Nnunu’s journey in the Catholic Church began at just 5 years old at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Lobatse, where she joined the Chiro Movement. She later continued her Chiro formation at Tsholofelong Catholic Church.

In 1992, upon returning to her home village of Ramotswa, she pioneered the establishment of the Chiro Movement in Ramotswa, building it from the ground up. She grew through the ranks and became an active and dedicated leader in Chiro Youth, mentoring countless young Catholics in faith, leadership, discipline and service. Chiro remains the bedrock of her spiritual and community life.

Choir Ministry – St. Conrad’s and the National Stage:
Her musical calling was first discovered in the church. In 1996, she joined St. Conrad’s Church Choir, Ramotswa, where she rose to become a lead soloist. For many years, under her voice, the choir consistently achieved Position 1 in competitions, and she was chosen to represent other choirs in the Southern Region.

Her exceptional talent led to her selection for the National Catholic Choir and the KTM Choir, where she continued to serve as a soloist, ministering through liturgical music across Botswana. The church choir was her training ground, her ministry, and her launchpad.

Professional Music Career and Awards:
Transitioning from church to the professional stage, Nnunu recorded her debut Jazz album Mmasonoko in 2012.
Her breakthrough year was 2016, where she dominated the Botswana Music Union (BOMU) Music Awards, winning:
– Best Album of the Year
– Best Female Artist of the Year
– Best Packaged Album of the Year
– Best Video of the Year

In the same year 2016, she received international recognition when she was nominated and won Best Female Artist of the Year (Southern Africa) at the AFRIMA Awards in the USA.
In 2026, she released her highly acclaimed album “Sephonono”, which earned her Best Jazz Album of the Year and the prestigious Chairman’s Achievement Award of the Year at the BOMU Music Awards.

Giving Back to the Church Today:
Despite her national and international success, Nnunu has never left her home choir. She is still an active member of St. Conrad’s Church Choir today.
She serves the choir and the church at large through ASB (fundraising initiatives), and is also a proud member of Mophato wa ga Gideon, where her group consistently achieves Position 1. She personally leads and assists in fundraising activities to build the choir, support church projects, and sustain the mission of the Catholic Church in Ramotswa and in Botswana as a whole.

For Nnunu, every award, every stage, and every song is a way of giving back to the Church that raised her from a 5-year-old Chiro girl to the woman she is today – a true daughter of the Roman Catholic Church, a servant leader, and a voice for God and for Botswana.
